New Year’s Resolutions for Your Bathroom

With all the ups and downs we’ve seen in 2020, we’re sure to have some thoughtful New Year’s Resolutions for 2021. Whatever you’re trying to accomplish in the new year, consider a bathroom remodel as part of it! Trying to get organized and use your time more effectively? Streamlining your bathroom routines can be a part of that. Trying to relax and practice more self-care? Hello, personal spa! How about saving water? New bathroom fixtures and/or accessories can make a world of difference. We can’t help but be a bit bathroom-focused at Home Forever Baths, but do consider these ways you can use your bathroom better in 2021!

#1: Conserve More Water

Water prices are expected to rise in 2021, especially in drier parts of the country. Even in places with better access to water, we would do well not to waste it, as it may not be as renewable as we might believe when consumed at a high enough rate. Here are some things to think about when selecting new bathroom products to save water:

  • Kohler showerheads use Katalyst technology, infusing two liters of air into the water per minute. In addition to saving water, this provides a luxurious air-infused shower droplet that clings to the skin and retains more heat, allowing you to run your mixture slightly cooler than with other showerheads. That saves other resources, as well!
  • Look for faucets with the WaterSense label. It’s like the EnergyStar label on your electric devices. Any accessory with the WaterSense label means it meets the EPA’s specifications for optimum efficiency and performance, approved by an independent third-party certifier.
  • Install a low-flow or dual-flush toilet. Dual-flush allows you to choose between a minimal amount of water or a full tank’s worth when necessary. Also consider that any toilet made before 1992 is guaranteed to be a water hog compared to today’s toilets.

#2: Slow Down

Especially if you’re working from home, the time saved on commuting can be put to use luxuriating in the bath. Trying to read more this year? Light a few candles and enjoy a good book in the tub.

If you’re remodeling your bathroom, think about the ways it can be more inviting and spa-like. And if you’re not going for a whole remodel, remember that even a new coat of paint can really transform a space.

#3: Organize

Our days begin and end in our bathroom. In the morning, this is the place where we go from “just out of bed” to “ready for the day.” At night, we notch down the energy from the day and prepare for rest. If you’re trying to be more organized generally, start with your bathroom. It will inspire you every morning to carry your accomplishment there into the rest of the house, and it will help you prepare for the restful calm of your bedroom every night.

Adding more storage to your bathroom is a great way to get organized. A new vanity or medicine cabinet can help spruce up the space while also providing new opportunities to stash and organize.

#4: Lighten Up!

Brighten up your bathroom and your routines will feel free and easy. Side lights alongside your vanity mirror will do a better job of illuminating your routine than overhead lights or a bath bar above the mirror. If your bathroom is closed in, consider knocking out a window or skylight. Brighten up your bathroom for a brighter 2021!

#5: Keep It Clean

Cleaning the bathroom is no one’s favorite household chore, but one way to make it easier is to clean more often. Two or three minutes of wiping up surfaces here and there will translate to fewer full-blown cleanings. Towel-drying your shower walls after a shower will prevent mildew from ever building up at all. Give it a try; a little cleaning now might prevent a lot later on.
